Ealing boys claim London Youth Games volleyball bronze

Ealing’s boys volleyball team returned home with bronze medals after finishing third at this year’s London Youth Games competition.

The borough’s young players secured a podium finish at the tournament, held at UEL SportsDock over the weekend, where teams from across London competed for the capital’s youth volleyball title.

Ealing reached the semi-finals before narrowly missing out on a place in the final, eventually taking third place behind champions Kingston and runners-up Westminster.

Ealing Team manager Gabriel Dan said the players had performed superbly throughout the competition.

Mr Dan, said: “It’s been a fantastic achievement for Ealing, we all had fun. We narrowly lost in the semi-final but I’m immensely proud, they all played really well. We look forward to coming back next year, doing it all again and hopefully come back with a gold.”

More than 340 young athletes took part in the two-day tournament, representing boroughs from across London in both boys’ and girls’ competitions.

Ealing player Samir said the event was about more than medals.

He said: “We got third place, so I’m happy to get a medal. London Youth Games is enjoyable, it’s challenging, you meet new people, you play with new people, you see how other people play, you get more experience and you play to the best of your ability.”

Richmond won the girls’ volleyball competition, ahead of Merton and Haringey.
