Hanwell Carnival makes long-awaited return in June

Thousands of people are expected to turn out for the return of Hanwell Carnival next month after organisers spent the past year raising funds to keep the long-running event going.

The carnival will be held at Elthorne Park on Saturday 20 June from midday until 6pm.

Dating back to 1898, the carnival is one of London’s oldest community events and has become a well-known part of Hanwell’s summer calendar.

This year’s event has received £5,000 in backing from Ealing Council through the council’s Your Voice Your Town programme.

The carnival did not take place last year while organisers focused on fundraising and planning for the future. Although the event is returning, the traditional street parade has been cancelled this year because of rising costs.

Visitors can still expect a full day of entertainment in the park, including live music, dance performances, food stalls, a dog show, children’s rides and an animal area with donkey rides and a petting zoo.

Bands performing on the day include The Hanwell Ukulele Group, The Grim Face Marys and Those Dirty McGuffins.

Des McManus said: “Since the last carnival, we have worked hard to strengthen the event and are determined to give everyone in Hanwell and beyond a great day out this year.”
