A Hanwell pub has been ordered to pay more than £52,000 after Ealing Council inspectors discovered a serious mouse infestation during repeated food hygiene inspections.
Redcat Retail Pubs Ltd, which owns The Grosvenor in Oaklands Road, pleaded guilty to three offences linked to poor pest control and failing to comply with a legal notice. The company was sentenced at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on 22 April 2026.
The court ordered the company to pay a £37,000 fine, a £2,000 victim surcharge and £13,362 in legal costs.
Council officers first visited the pub in February 2024 following a complaint about food poisoning. Inspectors found mouse droppings across the kitchen and basement, including on food preparation surfaces, equipment, shelving and floors. Packets of ready-to-eat food had also been gnawed and contaminated.
The pub was immediately closed after officers served a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice before reopening later that month after improvement works were carried out.
However, during another unannounced inspection in July 2024, inspectors again found evidence of mice in storage areas. The business was later given a Food Standards Agency hygiene rating of two, meaning “improvement necessary”.
The Grosvenor remains open and now serves drinks only. Following a further inspection in January 2026, it was awarded a four-star hygiene rating.
Kamaljit Nagpal said: “Rodent infestations in food businesses are completely unacceptable. They put customers at risk and show a clear failure to meet basic food hygiene standards.
“When businesses ignore the law, we will take firm action to protect residents and hold those responsible to account.”
