Why I’m standing: Neil Reynolds, Ealing Green Party, Ealing Broadway

On 7 May 2026, residents in the Ealing Broadway ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.

EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.

Here’s what Neil Reynolds, standing for Ealing Green Party in Ealing Broadway, has to say:

Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for Ealing Broadway?
I’ve lived in Ealing since 1998, and for more than twenty years I’ve worked as a teacher in London schools. I’ve also served seven years as a school governor, and I’m currently chair of the Ealing Green Party. Over that time, I’ve seen how much potential this borough has — and how often residents feel let down by decisions that don’t reflect their needs.

My priorities for Ealing Broadway are clear: protecting our green spaces, improving housing fairness and standards, and pushing the council to take the climate emergency seriously. I’m standing because I believe the Green Party offers the kind of honest, practical leadership that Ealing needs. I want to give residents a stronger voice and help deliver real, measurable change.

What motivates you?
I’m motivated by a simple belief: politics should be a force for good. The solutions to the climate crisis already exist — what’s missing is the political courage to act. I’m also driven by a commitment to fairness, whether that’s in housing, public services, or the way we treat our environment.

What is your own personal connection to either Ealing Broadway or any other part of the borough?
Ealing has been my home for almost my entire adult life, I first moved to Ealing Braodway in 1998, and I know the communities of Southall, Hanwell, Ealing well. These are vibrant, diverse neighbourhoods with a strong sense of identity, and I genuinely couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
Supporting the Save Warren Farm campaign — Working alongside volunteers to protect this vital green space has been one of the most inspiring community efforts I’ve been part of.

A leading role in the Ealing Green Party — As chair, I’ve helped strengthen our local presence, shape policy priorities, and support residents campaigning for cleaner air, safer streets, and better planning decisions.

More than 22 years as a teacher and seven years as a school governor — Education is at the heart of community life, and I’m proud of the contribution I’ve made to young people and families across London.

What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Walpole faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
Protecting green spaces and biodiversity Ealing Broadway may be urban, but its green pockets matter. I will push for stronger protections and resist developments that erode natural spaces.

Housing quality and fairness Too many residents face poor standards or developments that don’t meet local needs. I will hold the council to account on housing quality and push for genuinely affordable, sustainable homes.

Climate action and clean air Ealing declared a climate emergency in 2019, but progress has been slow. I want to see real, measurable steps toward net zero and cleaner air for everyone.

What do you love about Ealing Broadway and the borough of Ealing?
I love the diversity, the energy, and the sense of community that runs through Ealing. From the independent shops and cafés to the green spaces and cultural mix, Ealing Broadway reflects the best of the borough — welcoming, lively, and full of character.d

How accessible will you be to Walpole residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
Accessibility is essential. Throughout my time as a campaigner and party chair, I’ve always made a point of being available to the people I represent. Residents can already reach me through the Ealing Green Party, and if elected I will hold regular surgeries, attend community meetings, and stay active and visible in the ward. My aim is to be a councillor people feel comfortable approaching — and one who listens.
