A fly-tipper caught on CCTV dumping waste from a car on Hamilton Road in Ealing has been ordered to pay £616 after pleading guilty in court.
Ealing Council said Awil Dahir admitted offences under section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Ealing Magistrates’ Court last month (6 March 2026).
The case followed CCTV footage showing Dahir stopping his vehicle in Hamilton Road before unloading boxes on to the pavement.
He later claimed he had left the waste because he was concerned his car might be struck by a bus. However, footage showed him returning to the vehicle and remaining there for about 10 minutes after the rubbish had been dumped.
Although Dahir does not live in the borough, council officers traced him to an address in south-west London.
A fixed penalty notice was issued but went unpaid, prompting the council to begin legal proceedings.
Dahir attended court in person and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, which magistrates took into account when sentencing. He was ordered to pay a total of £616.
Joe Blanchard, Ealing Council’s assistant director for environment and community protection, said: “Fly-tipping is a selfish and illegal act that damages our towns and places an unfair burden on residents and council services.”
Mr Blanchard added: “This case shows how seriously we take environmental crime and how CCTV is helping us identify and prosecute offenders, even when they do not live in the borough.”
