Schools across Ealing are being invited to nominate young people for the annual Dr John Roberts QC CBE Achievement Awards, which recognise primary and secondary students of African and Caribbean descent across the borough.
Now in its 21st year and sponsored by Ealing Council, the awards have previously featured a number of high achievers, including England footballer Bukayo Saka, who won the sports category in 2017, and Tatianna Gailard, who has since qualified as a commercial pilot.
The awards are organised by Acton-based charity Descendants, a 33-year-old organisation supporting young people with a focus on African and Caribbean culture. Nominations are open across primary, secondary and special educational needs schools, with categories including academic achievement, resilience, arts, sport, STEM, entrepreneurship and leadership.
The ceremony is due to take place on 11 July 2026 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel near Ealing Common. It will be hosted by Careeta Robert-Green, entrepreneur and chief executive of Born With A Gift. Invited guests include EastEnders star Rudolph Walker and Descendants patron Dr Jak Beaulah.
Parents and guardians can contact their child’s school to support nominations across seven categories:
- students who excel in all areas of their education
- students who work hard and achieve against all the odds
- students who excel in the arts
- students who excel in sports
- students who excel in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths)
- students with entrepreneurial qualities
- students who are future leaders
The closing date for entries is 7pm on 22 May 2026.

Amirah Stewart, a student at Alec Reed Academy and a previous winner of the entrepreneurial qualities award, said the recognition had encouraged her to take further opportunities, including organising a virtual talk at her school with Tim Campbell.
