Nearly 2,000 jobs lost in Ealing over past year

The number of people on payroll employment in Ealing fell by 1,938 over the past year, according to new analysis of official data.

Latest figures for March 2026 show there were 181,647 people on payroll in the borough, down 1.1% compared with the same month last year. In the most recent month alone, payroll numbers dropped by 598.

The analysis, based on data from the Office for National Statistics and compiled by employment and pay app WageSight, suggests employers in the borough continue to face pressure.

Among 19 towns and cities across London included in the comparison, Ealing ranked 13th for annual employment change, placing it among the weaker performers.

The report said the picture across London was mixed, with some areas seeing payroll growth while others recorded declines.

Paul Hebden, director of WageSight, said: “The latest figures underline the continued pressure on employment in Ealing. Payroll remains down compared with last year, and recent month-on-month data suggests employers are still cutting back.”
