Opinion: Dominic Kirkbride & Tegan Millard, Green Party candidates for North Hanwell

Dominic Kirkbride & Tegan Millard are Green Party candidates standing in North Hanwell in the Ealing Council local elections on 7 May 2026. They set out their views.

“We’ve been contacted by residents in North Hanwell, concerned about a potential closure of Brent Valley Golf Course due to the progression of Ealing Council’s plan for a regional park across the borough.

“As Green Party candidates for North Hanwell, we’re very much in favour of more open, green spaces—for local people, as well as wildlife—but we’re also concerned that the Labour council’s plans for the regional park are deliberately ambiguous. We believe there’s a way to achieve more biodiverse spaces, whilst keeping the ability for people to enjoy outdoor activities, including golf. But we don’t know if the Labour council share that belief, because the plans don’t make clear whether the golf course is under threat of closure or redevelopment or not.

“As part of the regional park plans, the council already closed Perivale Golf Course, citing that nearby Brent Valley was available. But if it’s not clear whether Brent Valley survives all phases of the park, was this explanation an honest one? We’re also concerned that facility buildings like the health and fitness centre are planned to be demolished and redeveloped, paving the way for quiet expansion of the built areas of the course into new building and development. Ealing Green Party does not support additional building or significant construction in any part of the the park.

“Indeed, last time we saw this ambiguity around open spaces was when Southall FC—who were owned and run by the family of the local Labour MP—had plans to turn half of Warren Farm into ‘Sharma Stadium’ back in 2022, and Labour were accused of being deliberately unclear on their plans prior to the 2022 election. After lots of campaigning (including by Ealing Green Party, consistently over many years), Warren Farm is only just achieving nature reserve status, just before the next election — it strikes us as convenient, and we are concerned that the same tactics of ambiguity are at play here in North Hanwell.

“We’re calling for Labour to be open and honest about how their regional park plans affect current facilities and green spaces across all spaces it will cover, so local residents can properly scrutinise them, and have their voices heard.
