A valiant effort from the Geordies ended in a defeat to high flying Gloucester City on Friday (3 April 2026) evening. Hanwell Town took the lead through an early goal from Henry Snee and went into the break ahead. Gloucester completed the comeback with goals from Keiran Phillips and an own goal from Harry Hoath.
The first half started with the Geordies going ahead. Eli Oladunjoye drove down the left-hand side of the attacking half and crossed the ball into the box. Striker Snee was waiting unmarked in the box to tap home and give Hanwell an early lead.
After the quick start, the game lacked chances, with the best falling to the Geordies. A good run from Ernaldo Krasniqi saw him weave past a couple of challenges before firing well wide from the edge of the box.
Gloucester’s best chance of the first half fell to Joe Hanks. A good ball in from Elis Watts was met by Hanks but he headed just wide.
The half ended tamely and the Geordies went into the break with a one goal advantage.
The second half started the same way the first ended. A lack of chances for both sides. Harry Hoath did brilliantly to chase the ball down, forcing a throw in, which was subsequently put just wide from Jack Matton.
However, in the 65th minute, Gloucester equalised. Watts found himself on the right edge of the box and fired a curling shot towards goal. It was heading wide until Hoath stooped low to clear, deflecting the ball towards goal and finding the bottom corner.
After substitutions from both sides, Gloucester took the lead. A low cross into the box saw Phillips get to the ball before goalkeeper Sam Beasant. He poked the ball into the net to complete the away sides comeback.
Hanwell ended the game pushing for the equaliser. Substitute Gianni Crichlow gave the Geordies some energy, doing well down the right-hand side. He crossed towards the back post with Harvery Bradbury waiting to head home, but the ball was just too high. The striker beat the defender in the air but headed over.
After six minutes added time, the full-time whistle went and the away side took all three points.
Hanwell Town manager Chris Moore said after the game: “It’s a real tough one to take. For large parts of the game we were good and deservedly one nil up at half time”.
Hanwell are next in action away on Easter Monday when they take on local rivals Uxbridge at the Honeycroft in a 3pm kick off. The Geordies next return to the Oliver Connell and Son Community Stadium when they face Weymouth on the 11th of April for a 3pm kick off.
