An independent brewery in Perivale has enlisted illustrator and former children’s laureate Chris Riddell to transform a wooden hoarding at Horsenden Farm into a large-scale public artwork, in a bid to improve the site’s appearance following recent safety works.
The mural, titled The Perivale Wyvern, was created during a free, day-long public event on Sunday (22 March 2026), with visitors invited to watch the piece take shape and speak to the artist.
The hoarding was installed by Ealing Council in December 2025 after structural defects were identified at the farmhouse, prompting safety measures that restricted access to parts of the site.

Mr Riddell has previously collaborated with the brewery on live drawing events supporting charitable causes.
Christian Perrins, co-founder of Perivale Brewery, said: “We’ve obviously been impacted by the hoardings and closure of our courtyard, but from adversity comes opportunity. We realised we could turn the boards into something beautiful.”
He said the artwork would remain in place for visitors to enjoy while the hoarding is in situ, with plans to relocate it once a long-term solution is agreed with Ealing council to make the farmhouse safe and accessible.
Sarah Murphy, chair of Friends of Horsenden, said: “Horsenden Farm has been a hub for creativity and resilience within the community. We hope this marks the beginning of a new chapter for Horsenden.”
