Christmas fun at Southall’s Open Havelock

Families gathered at a community space in Southall for a free Christmas event supported by housing association giant Peabody, as local groups sought to bring neighbours together ahead of the festive period.

The celebration at Open Havelock earlier this month (20 December 2025) drew residents of all ages for an afternoon of activities. Children danced to festive songs, took part in arts and crafts and decorated gingerbread people. Organisers also laid on face painting, seasonal treats and pizza for attendees.

A snow machine and festive props were used to set the scene, while a DIY five-tier Christmas tree made from foam board triangles took centre stage. The tree was created with help from children during craft sessions in the run-up to the event, and later decorated with baubles they had made in weekly sessions at the venue.

The programme included a Bolly-Bhangra themed song and dance session and an appearance by Santa, who handed out presents to children.

The event was led by Sarah from Our Moving Stories, a Southall-based organisation that runs creative arts and movement sessions at Open Havelock, with support from Peabody and local partners including Let’s Go Southall and Food Glorious Food CIC.

Sarah said: “Witnessing people of all ages from our local community engaging in activities together was wonderful.”
