Match report: Gosport 2 v Hanwell Town 1

Hanwell Town came inches away from pulling off a remarkable comeback at Gosport, however goals from Ben Greenwood and Rafa Ramos condemned the Geordies to a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday (10 December 2025).

Chris Moore’s side had a makeshift look to them as injury and illness denied the Hanwell manager his first three choices at centre back with Roberto Nditi and Harry Hoath deputising in the absence of Will Hall, Harry Seabrook and Dwayne Duncan, the latter of whom was on the bench but only in the event of an emergency.

Ramos had a golden opportunity to score midway inside the first half as he beat Sam Beasant to the ball but, with the goal gaping inexplicably fired a shot wide. Hanwell got into the game more with Elijah Oladunjoye’s long throws causing problems as the first half ended goalless.

It looked as if it would take something special to break the deadlock and, on 71 minutes, that something special happened as, after Calum Woodcock committed a foul on the edge of the area, Greenwood stepped up and curled the free kick into the top corner to give the hosts the lead.

Moore responded by bringing on Jordy Mongoy, Joe Wilson and Harry Rice to try and get his side back in the game. Mongoy, though, was guilty of ball watching and allowed Greenwood to intercept. His run and pass found Ramos who fired the ball past Beasant to give Gosport a 2-0 lead.

Hanwell responded and set up a grandstand finish in the first minute of stoppage time as Wilson’s cross was turned home by Woodcock. And they almost had an equaliser in the dying seconds as Rice burst through the backline. His shot, though was gathered by Henry Blackledge to save Gosport’s blushes.

Hanwell make the journey across London to face Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Trophy third round on Saturday (13 December 2025).
