West London NHS Trust ranked among top-performing non-acute providers

West London NHS Trust, which provides a range of health services to Ealing residents, has been placed in the top tier of non-acute trusts in the government’s new performance league tables, securing 10th place out of 61 across England.

The tables, published quarterly under the National Operating Framework, are designed to introduce consistent standards across the NHS. Ministers say the new system will improve transparency and accountability, helping to raise standards, reduce variation in care and ensure patients receive the services they deserve.

In Ealing, the trust delivers a wide range of services alongside its core mental health provision. These include care for long-term conditions such as diabetes, pressure ulcers and continence needs, alongside psychological and psychiatric care. The trust also provides specialist support for children, people with learning disabilities, and therapies such as physiotherapy, podiatry, speech and language and occupational therapy to help residents stay independent.

Chief Executive Maria O’Brien said: “This is a fantastic achievement and one that demonstrates we are managing our organisation well, while continuing to deliver high-quality care to those we serve.”

Trusts placed in the top tier receive not only national recognition but also greater operational freedoms and reduced external scrutiny from NHS England. The government hopes such incentives will encourage high performance across the health service.

The trust also provides nursing for people in their homes and community clinics, GP services for patients in care homes, and care at home for people at the end of their lives.

Ms O’Brien added: “Reaching the top tier is not only a recognition of your hard work and commitment, it also means that as a Trust we benefit from greater freedom to operate and less external scrutiny from NHS England. In short, it allows us to remain more in control of our own destiny – shaping our services in ways that best meet the needs of our patients and communities.”

The government has pledged to expand the league tables across all areas of NHS performance by 2026, with the aim of ending postcode variation in care and rewarding high-performing organisations.
