What’s On at ActOne: July 2025 Highlights from Acton’s Community Cinema

July 2025 offers plenty at the ActOne Cinema: live music, free community nights of board games and comedy, and intriguing films of all genres. Escape the heat in two air-conditioned auditoriums, a breezy lounge available for hire and a daily café.

Now Showing – until 3rd July

  • 28 Years Later: A visceral, unrelenting post-apocalyptic horror from Danny Boyle.
  • F1 The Movie: A high-octane, action-packed sports drama starring Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and Damson Idris. Shot during the actual Grand Prix weekends!
  • The Last Journey: A heartwarming and emotional father-son road trip.
  • Red Path: A gripping coming-of-age drama based on true events that shook Tunisia.
  • Caché (Hidden): A neo-noir psychological thriller starring Juliet Binoche, Daniel Auteuil and Annie Girardot.

Coming Soon – From Friday, 4 July

  • From Hilde, with Love – An engrossing and powerful love story about being brave and fighting for what you believe in.
  • The Road to Patagonia – A stunning, intimate series of love letters within a documentary – a love between two people, and between humanity and the Earth.
  • The Way We Talk – An earnest, superbly performed drama, set in contemporary Hong Kong, following the complex lives of young people navigating deafness.
  • Sudan, Remember Us – A captivating tribute to the articulate youth, to the dreams and hope, and the new and difficult situation they must navigate post-revolution.
  • Ran  Legendary Akira Kurosawa reimagines Shakespeare’s King Lear as a visually spectacular, singular historical epic set in sixteenth-century Japan—40th anniversary re-release.

Special Events – Mark Your Calendar

Classic Matinee: Jean de Florette – Wed 2 July, 2.15 pm

Brought to extraordinary life by acting legends Depardieu, Auteuil, and Montand, Jean de Florette draws viewers into a fully realised vision of 1920s rural France in which the culture clash between modern ideas and the rustic older codes of the country takes a heartbreaking turn. Seniors pay only £5, with free tea, coffee and biscuits after the film.

Board Games Night – Wed 2 July, 6.00 pm

Drop in, play a classic or discover something new. All levels welcome! Free entry.

Jazz Night with Trent Pieterse Quartet – Sat 5 July, 7.30 pm

The Trent Pieterse Quartet (guitar, drums, trumpet, and bass) brings a repertoire of smooth tones, lively jazz standards and improvisations, and a cosy atmosphere. £3 entry.

Sound & Vision: Short Film Open Mic Night – Wed 9 July, 6.30 pm

Enjoy an evening of film community creativity. Short films of all genres will be followed by a meet-and-greet and networking session. £7 tickets.

Untitled Comedy – Fri 11 July, 7.00 pm

Stand-up talents take the stage; expect laughs, surprises, a prize for one lucky audience member and a great atmosphere. Free entry.

The Encampments + live Q&A – Sat 12 July, 2.30 pm

Timely and urgent, this impressively comprehensive documentary detailing the recent 2024 Palestine solidarity campus encampments at Columbia University (and the universities that followed suit) is a testament to the power of filmmaking as an important tool in archiving the past, present and the future, as well as the weight of collective action.

Corina Kwami Duo Live  – Sat 12 July, 7.30 pm, £10 tickets

From jazz to Latino music, soul to samba, this show will have a mix of originals and classics on the theme of the planet, the people and intertwined pathways. Born in New Jersey, USA, to a Ghanaian and Irish family, her inspiration in jazz is flavoured with influences such as stride piano, West African high-life, Irish folk music and soul. Corina will perform with a special guest, Clement Regert.

La Traviata – Sun 13 July, 2.30 pm

After its sold-out UK premiere at ActOne, Giuseppe Verdi’s filmed version of La Traviata returns for one final screening. This is not a live capture, but a new approach to delivering opera: One of opera’s most famous and beloved works out of the great opera houses and into a new light. Verdi’s opera, originally designed for a large romantic orchestra and huge chorus, is here reimagined as an intimate love story.

ActOne Film Quiz – Thu 17 July, 7.30 pm

Test your film knowledge in a film quiz – different theme every month! Hosted by fabulous Lara Loren, we welcome teams of up to six trivia enthusiasts. £3 entry.

Open Mic Night – Thu 31 July, sign up from 7.30 pm

We aim to cultivate an atmosphere of energy, enthusiasm and unconditional support, so whether you wish to perform or sit back and be entertained, come down. Free entry.
