A charity that has been supporting homeless and vulnerable people with food and personal amenities in Acton since October 2022 marked International Dentists’ Day (9 February 2025) by providing free dental hygiene kits to locals in need.
Who Is Hussain London, which operates outside Morrison’s on King Street every Sunday from 3pm – 5pm, gets between 60-80 people every weekend using the service.
The kits, which included toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, were donated to the charity by Colgate, Oral-B and Henry Schein.
A study by homelessness charity Groundswell revealed that 90 per cent of homeless people have had an issue with oral health since becoming homeless, with a third currently experiencing dental pain. While 7 in 10 reported lost teeth since becoming homeless and 15% have had to pull out their own teeth.
Kumail Jaffer from Who is Hussain London, said: “Feeding the homeless and needy in London is something we have performed consistently for years. But some of our guests may be unable to take advantage as they experiencing tooth pain or other oral conditions from a lack of dental care.”
Mr Jaffer added: “Providing both short and long-term support is something we pride ourselves on at Who is Hussain London. This is in the spirit of Hussain Ibn Ali, whose charitable values inspire our actions today.”
