New Gen Festival is back at Walpole Park

A one-day arts festival featuring music, dance and poetry by young people and for young people in Ealing is taking place on Wednesday (24 July 2024) at Walpole Park.

The New Gen Festival, which started in 2022, will feature the borough’s creative young talent from established as well as up and coming performers.

Visitors will also be able to try out creative activities from learning to film through to trying out steelpans to make music.

Among the highlights on the main stage will be ten emerging artists chosen by a youth panel at Bollo Brook Youth Centre, dance performances and workshops put together by Elevate Arts to reflect the borough’s diversity and an all-female hip-hop company Solo Donne.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Robin Vaughan-Williams, community events producer at Ealing Council said: “New Gen isn’t just a music festival, it’s a festival of creativity, with opportunities to take part and try something new, from dance and poetry workshops to having a go at playing the steelpans or getting involve in the film shoot.
“Young people have contributed to New Gen at all levels. They’ve told us what artists they want to see and came up with the name, they’re marketing and producing the festival, and taking part as the next generation of talent.
“New Gen has always had a very diverse audience and this year Include Me is helping us to be even more welcoming to everyone by programming artists with additional needs and bringing the Sound beam to New Gen, a hands-free music-making experience.”

The Include Me stage will be showcasing performers from Chicken Shed Theatre, the Mencap Choir, IMPACT Theatre Band and West London Performing Arts Academy.

Councillor Blerina Hashani, Ealing Council cabinet member for thriving communities said: “We are an inclusive borough, and we’re proud to increase accessibility for those children and young people in our community who would like to attend and participate in these types of events but would normally be marginalised or excluded.”

Councillor Hashani added: “New Gen Festival is a platform created by and for young people in the borough It’s wonderful to see all members of our community being given the space and opportunity to express themselves and show off their talents on a huge platform.”

The festival starts are noon and runs until 9.3ppm.  Tickets to attend start at £3.
